Most voices objecting to Israeli settlements in the area called the West Bank are using false logic and off the wall arguments. I abhor settlements from their very start in early 1968.
The land cannot be said to belong to the Palestinians because there was never a Palestinian state or country. To claim that the settlements are illegal sound very nice but flies in the face of the practices of almost all countries in the world. For example, for American to object to settlement is a cruel joke. The US is one big settlement from sea to shining sea. North American, as well as Central and South America, belongs to Native Americans- the Indians. The whole continent is occupied land that went hand in hand with a real genocide. All Americans are in no position to claim that settlements are illegal only at a country of their choosing.
Relying on UN resolutions as raison d'ĂȘtre is another bitter joke. This is the same institution that resolved that Jews' national aspiration are racism but everyone else, including artificial countries such as Saudi Arabia and Jordan, create by British Imperialism, are fine. The UN is essentially a democracy of dictators, most countries in the world are dictatorships. Also, the Arab nations have a huge block of votes while Israel has a single vote. The UN is the last place one may look for impartially in this conflict.
The reason to object to settlement is simple; the country is small and has to accommodate two peoples, Israelis and Palestinian. The two peoples must live in peace to make such sharing possible. Therefore, everyone should right away, either 2010 or 1968, stop grabbing pieces of land and be as accommodating as possible. A freeze of the situation as of 1967 is justified just because it was a good starting point and not for any other convoluted and mindless reason. Since it is 2010 and the final borders have been known, although not acknowledged, since at least 2000 Clinton/Arafat/Barak negotiations any added settlement will have to be part of Palestine and they should be populated not by Israelis but by Palestinians.
