"Most Muslims are Peaceful People"

In the discussions about the necessity to treat American Muslims the same way we treat every other religion and every other ethnic group the most bizarre and logically contorted arguments are raised. The main reason for equal treatment for Muslims as for Christian and Jews is a human right and tolerance axiom. If you believe that all people should be treat with respect and equally, their religions accepted as legitimate and their cultures respected, Muslims are included with everybody else. Muslims don't kill because they are Muslim and Christian don't kill because they are Christians. The close to 150 million people who were butchered in WWII in Europe were butchered by armies and nations and not by Christians as such.

There was a strong support in the Arab world for the attacks on 9/11. Claiming that most Muslims are peaceful in that particular case is wrong. Yet, this has nothing to do with American Muslims or the fact that most Arabs are Muslims. Most Arizonians seem to hate brown people; are we going to prevent them from practicing their religion. Antisemitism was widespread in Europe, as was the indirect support of killing of Jews. Europe is still not only anti-Gypsy but also antisemitic and the attitude towards Israel is a close relative of the same old time hate. We don't treat European badly; it almost seems absurd to think in such terms. Yet, it seems necessary for us to tell false stories about all the Muslims. Afghanis clearly support the murderous Taliban in large numbers. Gazans support the murderous Hamas and we don't want to retaliate against them.

"Most Muslims are Peaceful People" is neither true nor false, but the equal treatment of American Muslims has nothing to do with it. Even if the majority of Muslims were terrorists, not the case, American Muslims still deserve equal treatment and respect.
