How Bad is the MSM?

The latest ADL controversy is a great test to assess the quality of the main stream media (MSM). According to Jonathan Chait and Fareed Zakaria, the ADL committed felonious disregard for religious tolerance by objecting to the building of a mosque at the core of 9/11 attack. The slight problem is that the public question was not whether Muslims can build a mosque in NYC. The question was whether the location of the mosque is a proper choice. Religious tolerance was not, was not, the issue. Location was.

Is it that difficult to understand the central issue behind a rather straight forward public controversy where the motives of both sides are simple? The the disagreement was between those who think that moving the mosque ten block away is more appropriate to address Muslims needs and peoples emotions and those who see religious tolerance as the highest value trumping any other logic, emotion or right.

The MSM has failed to discuss the controversy in the latter simple terms. Doing so is way above their pay grade. But the Chait/Zakaria twin has gone further. They decided that the 1st amendment is nullified when religious tolerance is involved. Furthermore, if you don't side with them you are subhuman and should be repudiated publicly and openly.

It's not a big surprise that the atmosphere groomed by the MSM allows seeing unions as enemies of the people, Obama as a socialist, racist as human rights fighters, etc.
