At one point she says:
Sadly, the Democrats seem to only be able to speak to this in wonkish, elitist terms, believing that (the illusion of) technocratic competence is what people desire and they are dismissing the anger and betrayal that's bubbling up from beneath. The systemic problems of inequality, job loss and lowering living standards in this country are not being addressed by the left...
She goes on to say:
Today Blue America is asking you to go to the Alan Grayson Money Bomb page, CongressmanWithGuts.com and donate to a congressman who might just show the Democratic Party how to talk to ordinary Americans in this new populist era.
I believe that Digby doesn't point to the larger, much more malignant, problem. The Democrats are elitist who most of the time don't even pretend to talk to the "people." They talk the upper middle class that prefers technocratic speak over a wider more inclusive populist language. People always desire simple and straight talk whether they are angry or not. Inequality, job loss and lowering living standards are not addressed by anyone in this country. This in particular includes the president who is Garyson opposite. Obama lives in a haze of smoking bipartisan drug.
It isn't a "new populist era" as digby says. For the poor and the unemployed it's alway tough time. They don't need Goldman Sachs bonuses of 17 billion dollars to realize that the Democrats (and the Republicans) prefer CEOs over them any day of the week.
The whiskey Ronnie and Tip shared did not mask over the fact the Reagan was a bomb thrower, a guy who fired 13,000, someone who invented welfare queens that never existed and the root and founder of a Republican party anchored in religious extremism, economics of the 18 century and a total dedication to squashing workers and unions. Tip knew that and was one of our real leftist.
To be able to speak to the underclasses one does have to throw bombs, although the more the merrier, Jessie Jackson can speak to the underclass. He doesn't throw bombs but he cares and addresses the poor, unemployed and immigrant.
Times are new, it's not worse time (the poor are always poor), it's a new Democratic party, one the has no soul, no interest in the poor, no energy and one whose leader, the president likes to talk a good game but gives away the store to the ultra rich.
