Mubarak is gone and the military is now officially in control. Militaries don't give up control easily; what is the incentive for them to do so? Some say that the Egyptian military is "the people's military." Of course, the last 60 year show that this statement is wrong. If the military is the people, why did they allow torture and thievery to go on almost forever.
The military may enable a transition to democracy that guarantees the role of the military and the role of its upper command. They should encourage free press, including TV, immediately. They can reorganize to police and exclude the nasty part of it. They can encourage the creation of political parties and open up the the government to democratic civilians at significant roles. Eventually have an open elections.
That approach will guarantee the best outcome for the Egyptian people.
