Paul Krugman in Who Cooked the Planet says that greed and cowardice are the reasons we do nothing to prevent global warming.
There are three additional reasons that prevent putting up a fight against warming.
Conservatives in the US do not believe in science and have a narrow scope of understanding and interpretation, they also oppose anything Democratic. Conservatives have a repulsive relationship with science. It seems to them as a liberal undertaking performed by liberals. They cannot adjust to discoveries and results that not already widely accepted. The scientific consensus state the pending global warming, which conservative reject a priori. They reject evolution because science has no value; even the pope accepts evolution.
The examples demonstrate the narrow Republican scope of interpretation. Justice Scalia, for instance, believes in originalism in reading the constitution. That is obvious nonsense. Scalia drives cars, uses electricity, has Black neighbors, may use MRI, etc. There is no way on earth that a document written more than 250 years ago can apply to the 21st century with extrapolation and projection. Both Christianity and Judaism have mechanisms to project and adapt the basic dogma and rituals to current times. They had this mechanism almost from the very beginning. Republicans oppose Social Security because their leaders don’t need it. In Europe, our SS is way below the minimum consensus.
Global warming does not hit their nose, therefore the danger does not exist.
