The Big Progressives' Lie

Reading the blogs and listening to progressive pundits the Obama administration can be summarized as:

1. Run by Obama, Rahm Emmanuel and Harry Reid.
2. The worst of this triumvirate is Rahm who on his own made an agreement with the drug companies, decided to support the health care insurance companies, devoted too much time to vow senator Snowe, is a friend of Lieberman, etc. Basically, Rahm is our co-president who is as bad as Cheney.
3. The Democratic party leadership is bought wholly by the cooperate sector. Although, according to Kuttner, it's possible that Obama was too naive to understand it.

There are two lies here. One is a small lie, but nevertheless the most racist and criminal. The other is the major lie which is always hidden and no one has written about it.

The "guilt" of Rahm and the implied assumption that he is a co-president is the small lie. Obama supporters must shield Obama from some of the deals he cut, from some of the decisions he made. Their own support for Obama was unlimited, they made Hillary look like a monster to make Obama look great, they worked so hard to elect him. How can they turn their back on him so easily? How can they assess him, with the great education for objectivity they got, without pronounce his guilt.

Rahm comes in handy. He is the perfect fall guy. He is pushy, he is loud, he is dynamic, he is everywhere, he is sneaky, he is untrustworthy. He is a great fall guy. He is different, a dancer, a lawyer, a money guy, a successful congressman from Chicago no less. He is Jewish; a long time fall religion of the European left. "Pushy, loud, sneaky, untrustworthy" is exactly the European Antisemitic description of Jews.

It's not true that the leadership went the corporation way on it's own. The whole progressive movement tends corporate. Reading the Huffington Post during the Democratic primaries was fascinating. Most of the posters were investment bankers, management consultants, TV producers, money managers. You don't get more establishment corporate than that; it's almost funny if it weren't so sad.

Who are we kidding? Blue collar workers and an assortment of other Clinton old timer, Vernon Jordan and Dolores Huerta of Cesar Chavez union, voted for Hillary. The "Whole Food Nation" with its corporate wallets voted for Obama.

In a sense, Obama genuinely represent his corporate voters.
