Gaza - The left's fountain of Hate

The latest events in Gaza have brought streams and gushes of hate from the left most of it not based on fact. Israel is a terrorist state. Israel is an utterly foreign occupier of indigenous lands. Israel is an element of US strategy in the Near East. Israel has launched a vicious attack on a population it's subjected to degradation, siege warfare, and psychological torture.

Israel is as indigenous as the Palestinians. In arguing the national merits of two sides, it doesn’t pay to claim that only one side is right, unless of course prejudice plays a role. Historically, Jews preceded Muslims in Israel. This doesn’t lower the rights of Palestinians nor does it increase the rights of Israelis. These two people have to split the country to allow each culture to flourish independently and the people proud of their nationality.

American occupiers don’t live in Iraq, French colonialist live in Paris. All Israelis live in Israel and being occupiers implies that they either don’t have a right to self determination or that they belong somewhere else. Where exactly is not made clear. Why exactly are the Jews singled out as not deserving self determination?

Claiming the Israel has launched a vicious attack on a population is not supported by facts or reality. Israel attacked Hamas military forces. Psychological torture is a nice invention but what is it based on? Israel left Gaza in 2005 so it society was free, there was no siege and no control. Claiming that the population is subjected to degradation means that either Israel never left or its current activities are arbitrary and based on attacking a calm population. Of course, Israel activities are a response to Hamas rockets shoot at Israeli towns.” The population is subjected to degradation” seems like an apt description of what Hamas is doing to the Israeli population.

The US doesn’t have a consistent policy towards the Arab states in the last 50 years. The comments come mainly from the Bush period where Israel didn’t play any role in the attack on Iraq. The only consistent element in US policy is support of Israel against Arab aggression. In this century the Arab states became way too weak to form much a threat. Egypt and Jordan have a peace agreement with Israel. Syria is a backward country whose supporter, the Soviet Union, has disappeared and its militarily is not much of a threat. The only trouble comes from Iranian cronies such as Hezbollah and Hamas. Hezbollah has no business being part to the dispute; Israel doesn’t occupy or control Lebanon. Hezbollah is just looking action. Hams has a legitimate argument. One hopes that soon communication with Hamas will start.

Seeing Israel as an element of US strategy is old colonial Mugabe-like talk that should have long died away. Obviously hate is still grooms daily.

It’s very sad to see the hate emanating from leftist blogs; it’s an ominous sign of the state of the more promising elements in society. As Booker T. Washington said: “I will permit no man to narrow and degrade my soul by making me hate him.
