Cadillac Plans and Medicare Commission

The The New York Times talks about "a letter to Mr. Obama by a group of respected economists who strongly endorsed the Medicare commission and the tax on high-priced plans." The "respected" economist are not mentioned by name nor does it say who exactly respects them. What is clear from the preamble to the above statement is that the tax and and yet another cut in Medicare are essential to cost containment in the new health care reform.

That are two interesting assumptions hidden behind the proposal by the "respected" economists. First, the reform intends to improve the health insurance coverage for Americans except for seniors and those lucky enough to have a Cadillac plan. Second, in this country with the worst health insurance in the developed world and a medicine, some groups have too much of a good mediocre medicine. Specifically, in the mediocre medicine we offer, seniors have way too much of it. The lucky ones, e.g. union members, are declared by the Obama reform as having too much health coverage. (The latter, of course, is a statement on with everyone is equal but some are more equal than others.)

God save America.
